Illinois Valley Fishing Report 5/14

ILLINOIS RIVER:

The river has crested and is expected to drop slowly through the rest of the week. White bass are hitting beetle spins and minnows in the back waters and up in the creeks. A well placed minnow under a bobber in the flooded grass is a good bet. Sauger are slow with the high water, but a few fish are being caught in the back waters by the white bass fisherman.

LAKE EVERGREEN & LAKE BLOOMINGTON:

Crappie have slowed a bit due to the cold front with fewer limits being caught. Still some really nice fish are being caught in the shallow wood. A jig and minnow either worked with a long rod or fished under a bobber is working well.

HENNEPIN CANAL:

Bluegill are hitting wax worms and red worms with most fish running 5 to 7 inches. Catfish are taking night crawlers and dip baits below the spillways.
